Kids In Love Video

(20100402T010035Z )

First off have you all seen it? I have and I loved it. They really broke the mold with this concept and I love it. I think it's artsy and just utterly amazing, nearly impossible to put into words. However my mom waked in and thought I was watching something dirty. Yes it's a tad raunchy but it's the standard 'I'm twenty-one and can do as I please' mind set. I just wanted to know what you think and how you feel about it. There is a lot of hate one YouTube but I know most of those are complete idiots who have never even heard of Mayday before.

i enjoy it. i understand why some people could dislike it, its a little bad. but im 15 (and totally the 'good girl') and i didnt really see the problem in it. i liked that they took a little risk and didnt make the video a certain way just to please the fans. i think that if they are going to put their all into something (their music), they should be able to portray it however they would like to in their videos. it warns you before you watch it, so if you dont like things like that then you have a chance to not watch it. everyone has an opinion, but its THEIR music and they should express it how they intended when it was written. but i still see how some people could have expected more, it could have been deeper, or less (hmm wats the word im looking for?) sexual? lol but it seems so real, like videos people took on their trip instead of something shot for a video. i feel that it made a statement

no joke, i'm addicted to watching that music video. for some reason, i can not help but keep replaying it.

it may not have been what i invisioned with this song listening to the lyrics, but for me.. it fits.

I loved it. They really broke through the teen pop-alternative mold that had been made for them.I thought they did a wonderful job of capturing what teen love and summer flings are like. "The summer was full of mistakes we wouldn't learn from"- thats what the video was. Summer for teens is always crazy, especially when you are in love. And as for the explicit-ness of it, i am only 14 and it didn't really bother me. That being said, i would not recommend watching it when parents are anywhere near. To wrap this up, i am really proud of mayday. I hope they do more videos. : ]

I think its a bad example of what teen love really is. I dont think it actually captured teens in love. I didnt like it at all. Too much nudity. Im 19 and have a very loving boyfriend, yeah we get crazy but nothing like this video did. It just showed disrespect (spitting in face, switching partners, etc) and thats not a good message to be giving out. They could have been way more creative then this.

Well the thing says you have to be eighteen to watch it so they did consider their younger fans. Did I listen to the warning. No. But still. haha. I thought it was different and I liked it. It was creative and not like all this generic stuff we ALWAYS see. Congrats to them for trying something new. I to though was very scared my parents would come in while watching it. haha

I like the different than the generic music video idea. That being said, you said you are twenty one, I am seventeen. But I have been to their concerts. The fans their are several years younger. I don't think that they should necessarily hold themselves back on account of these younger fans, but consider what the concequences of a video like this are. For instance: my mother came into the kitchen as I was viewing this video. She now hates that band, even though I tried to explain to her that this was artistic expression. Concerts in the future- no way, cds, merch- no way... and I am seventeen. I can drive, work and care for myself. What about the 10-14 year old fans whose parents are concerned parents?

I expected a better video of Kids In Love.
Was excited for it, until I saw it today.
It's a great song that deserves a better video, it was so far from Mayday vids before.
It might not be my place to say, but I was disappointed.

Okay. First, maybe some people are just saying they like it just cause the band stands behind it...? Maybe not, but that's also a factor. That's the type of fakeness I can't stand. Anyway, I know I speak honestly when I say this: I don't necessarily like the video. I don't feel like it fits the song at all-nowhere in "Kids in Love" does it say they had sex and ran around naked on drugs. Though it does say "our breath smelled of cigarettes and alcohol," I still don't think that means they ran around naked. But art, in EVERY form, is open for interpretation, right? Maybe different people [including Mayday, the director, and fans of the video] see the meaning of the song that way. MY personal opinion is that I don't see it that way. And I love and support them enough to ACCEPT what they're doing. No bashing, no shunning. haha I feel like if they wanted to make a statement and give us something not "pop fluff," they could've done it a little differently. But I don't control their actions/how they feel, and I appreciate them and stand behind them 100%, unconditionally. Nothing, not even vulgar videos, will make me change my mind/feelings about them. The only problem I really have is that my nine-year-old sister LOVES them, and she's just too young to watch that video. I'm not disappointed in Mayday-just a little surprised. But definitely proud. =]

I love the video. I think it embodies what the song really means, but I do wish the band was in the video a little more often. The only one that stands out is Derek, like twice...

Although I didn't personally like the video... at all, I think any fan of mayday parade should get over it and just love them for everything else they have done! I mean theyre music is unbelievable!

I personally like the video. It was a very good concept. Now, this is just the film student in me, but I thought that, stylistically, it could have been better. The cinematography wasn't great and there were certain scenes that I could have done without. I'm not referring to the graphic nature of the scenes, just the aesthetics. At some points it seemed like the video was spliced between something professionally shot and a home video. Nonetheless, those few wonderful shots (mostly towards the end of the video) along with the concept manage to redeem it. The video did what it was supposed to. It stirred emotions. Isn't that kind of the point? I really don't see why people are being so uptight about it. Honestly it's just because of the censorship that goes on in this country. I mean, if you've seen british tv shows like skins, this really wasn't anything new to you. Props to the band for going with this concept. I don't see anything wrong with focusing on the darker aspects of how some kids live their lives. They're not condoning that type of behavior. I mean really, all they are saying is that shit happens. Besides, they are adults, and it's not really their fault that most of their fans are so young.

Overall, it was a great video. And maybe artsy wasn't the right word but whatever. The song was written by mayday parade and they know better than anyone what it's about. If you don't like it go write your own songs and make a music video to your liking.

I think a lot of people that don't like the video are just shocked that it's something that came from Mayday Parade. It was something no one could have expected. I think both the concept and just the way the video was made did a really good job at showing another side to Mayday Parade and to what the song is trying to get across, and isn't that the point of music videos? That's something a lot of music videos are missing these days, real meaning.

This video came as a shock to me, because I started listening to Mayday Parade almost religiously in middle school (2007) and that was just the connection I always made when listening to them. To me, they meant youth and innocence, and this video certainly did not mirror that. I think it's a sign of Mayday Parade, as a band, maturing. Just because they sing pop music, doesn't mean it's always written about something cute and innocent.

I thought the video WAS really artsy, it was raw and REAL. It screamed indie, and it had that swirl of the best and worst days mixed into one. It was honest. It was real. It didn't meet the fans expectations of the band, but that's not always a bad thing, and in this case, I think it was the best video and the best move they could have made.
